BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #172 – The Art of Ryld!

Howdy Folks…

There’s nothing I love more than learning that one of my fave artists has a new Blog.  I almost fell off my chair with excitement when I learned that Ryld had set up his own art Blog!!   See, Blogs are great because the artists who own them usually infuse them with their very own unique flavor, and the artwork they display is completely up to their discretion.

I first discovered the amazingly talented Ryld through the Y! Gallery.  It’s been a pleasure watching his gallery, and seeing each breathtaking addition he posts.  This is an artist with an almost classical influence to his lines.  Take a close look at “The General’s Tent” to see what I mean.  There is a richness to the lines that reminds me of renaissance drawings, or those wonderful classic Greek illustrations.  Ryld does male erotica effortlessly, and always adds a touch of class to the subjects he draws.

Ryld’s gifted hand has created gorgeous fan pieces of pop culture icons such as Thor and Captain America… and his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are STUNNING!  Don’t misunderstand me, I have a lot of respect for TMNT, but I can’t say I’ve ever been a huge fan… until Ryld drew them that is!  DAMN!!!  That boy has a way of infusing his subjects with intense eroticism. Now the turtles totally turn me on…at least when Ryld draws them!  LOL!

His sense of humor is also a real pleasure, and quite apparent in some of his pieces.  I especially love his interpersonal play between Capcom’s Ken and Ryu.  In a lot of fan slash, Ryu is generally portrayed as being the dominant character… but when Ryld draws these sexy boys, he turns the tides.  Ryu is Ken’s bitch!  LOL!  I love that!  It’s a great role reversal!

You’ve all noticed Ryld’s SUPERB rendition of Zahn on the cover of today’s issue. I love his angular take on my barbarian, and he’s at once powerful and beautiful by Ryld’s hand.  And just wait until you see his take on Cam!!

I must confess I was EXTREMELY tempted to show more of this fantastic artists’ artwork in this post, but in the end I felt it would be even better for you guys to check out Ryld’s Blog and his Y!Gallery page.  There is so much to see and appreciate, and it’s artwork best appreciated in it’s own environment. LOL! ;)

It’s so exciting for me to see all of these wickedly talented new artists find their voice and express themselves freely.  I watch Ryld and his peers with great appreciation and look forward to seeing where their vast talent will take them.  And I thank them for sharing their visions with all of us!
